Apple to create 500 jobs in Ireland

US technology giant Apple intends to create 500 support jobs in Cork, southern Ireland, the government said on Friday.

The move by the multi-national, which has generated huge sales of its iPads and iPhones rocket worldwide, will bring total employmentat Apple's Cork operation to about 3,300.

Enterprise and Innovation Minister Richard Bruton described the development as a "huge boost for the country" which is looking to recover from an international bailout.

"It is a great testament to the company's workforce, a great vote of confidence in the future of our economy, and it shows what is possible for Ireland at the heart of a stable Europe," Bruton said in a statement.

Cork government lawmaker Dara Murphy said most of the jobs at the Apple operation in the city -- which caters for business in Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa --- comprise tech support and online sales positions.

The Apple news follows an announcement on Wednesday that the Pittsburgh-based Mylan pharmaceutical manufacturer also plans to expand its Irish operations by creating 500 new jobs by 2016.

The Irish government, led by Prime Minister Enda Kenny, is looking to create 100,000 jobs by 2016.

"This is just the first step in an annual plan to help rebuild our economy," Kenny said on Friday.

Kenny's government is battling to reduce Ireland's unemployment rate of 14.3 per cent, which has led to more than 434,000 people being without work.

Ireland has been battered by the international financial crisis, but the economy is slowly recovering after it was forced to seek an 85-billion-euro ($112 billion) EU-IMF rescue package in November 2010.

Soon, mobile phones to be turned into credit cards

Under a payment system unveiled any mobile phone can be turned into a 'tap and go' credit card.

Advocates of the technology argue it could mean the end of small cash payments within five to 10 years.

The system, which can be used to make purchases up to 15 pounds, involves sticking asmart card or PayTag - about a third of the size of a normal credit card - to the back of ahandset.

To make a payment, the phone is tapped on a specially adapted till. The tag, which contains a microchip, communicates with the till terminal via an antenna to confirm the credit card account of the customer and authorise a payment without the need to enter a PIN.

The system is being launched by Barclaycard, which says it comes with 100 per cent fraud protection, but is likely to be adopted by other major banks.

Previously, only a few hi-tech handsets could be used for tap and go payments, but the new tag means any phone could be.

An increasing number of retailers offer or are introducing tap and go tills, including Waitrose,McDonald's, Boots and Tesco. By the end of this year, London buses will also accept these so-called contactless payments.

"More than half of us say that the item we're most lost without is our mobile phone, so we're giving people the option of using them to make easy, convenient, everyday payments," the Daily Mail quoted David Chan, chief executive of Barclaycard Consumer Europe as saying.

Mobile social network Mig33 has partnered mobile phone manufacturers to make its app pre-loaded on low-cost mobile phones. Handset makers including G'Five, Intex Technologies, Zen Mobiles, Bharti Entreprises' Beetel Teletech, Spice Mobiles, Olive Telecom, Lemon Mobiles and Swingtel Communications that recently launched its tablet, will offer Mig33 app pre-loaded on their devices.
"There is a great synergy with most low-cost handset makers as they also focus on distribution of handsets in smaller towns," said Mahip Vyas, Country Manager, India, Mig33.
Mig 33 has been witnessing a user uptake in Tier II and Tier III cities as consumers in these cities have greater acceptance of social entertainment applications that are available on their economical handsets. “We have users from far and wide cities like Ludhiana in Punjab, Bhagalpur in Bihar, Bharuch and Vapi in Gujarat to Cochin in Kerala,” Vyas added.

India Breeds Twenty Percent of World's Spam

Twenty per cent of the spam mails that were sent out worldwide in the quarter ended March 31, 2012, originated in India, according to a study by security software firm Trend Micro.

"The quarter's top spam-sending countries included India at 20 percent, Indonesia at 13 percent, South Korea at 12 percent and Russia at 10 percent," the report said.

The report added that attacks are now more of a long-term, on-going campaign, versus the typical "smash-and-grab incidents" favoured by cybercriminals in the past.

"The number of targeted attacks has dramatically increased. Unlike largely indiscriminate attacks that focus on stealing credit card and banking information associated with cybercrime, targeted attacks noticeably differ and are better characterised as "cyber espionage"," Trend Micro Country Manager India and SAARC Amit Nath said.

The report said cybercriminals are also capitalising on the growth of Android-based smartphones and this quarter's report identified about 5,000 new malicious Android apps.

"With the increased use of smartphones for Internet access and the huge Android user base, the increase in attacks targeting the platform is thus not surprising," the report said.

The report also found that Apple, which is considered to have one of the safest operating systems, has the highest vulnerability.

"Apple surpassed Oracle, Google and Microsoft in reported vulnerabilities, with a total of 91. Oracle came in second, with 78; Google, 73; and Microsoft, 43," it said.

In recent days, Apple security saw the outbreak of Flashback Trojan (malware) which at its height infected more than 6 lakh computers.

Despite some innovative efforts by Apple to eradicate Flashback, recent tallies estimate that 1.4 lakh Macs remain infected with the malware.

Blackberry Launched Affordable Smartphones In India

Research in Motion (RIM) on Wednesday launched in India what it called its "most affordable" BlackBerry smartphone, part of an aggressive push in one of its few growing markets.
The new Curve 9220 is priced in India at 10,990 rupees, higher than the price of Curve 8520, which is RIM's best-selling phone in India, and comes with an introductory offer to download free applications worth 2,500 rupees.
RIM, which will start selling the new phone in India on Thursday, will launch it in a number of other countries in coming weeks, Carlo Chiarello, executive vice president of RIM's smartphone division, told reporters.

RIM's BlackBerry devices have struggled to compete with Apple Inc's iPhone and iPad and a slew of devices based on Google's Android platform, and the Canadian company reported a quarterly loss last month as sales of its phones slumped.

Nokia 808 PureView First Look

Nokia's first Android phone: Tukeva 500

MobileCowboys was able to meet with a Nokia employee who shared this news
In Barcelona surprised Nokia friend and enemy with the revealing of new Symbian multi mediums apparatus, 808 the Pureview and some days suffered dove all of a sudden the rumour on that the Finns also still would work for two, cheaper, MeeGo smartphones. From that you are able conclude that the Windows Phone marriage with Microsoft (provisionally) are no monogamous matter, or become.
Yesterday (Friday) I had an appointment with highplaced Nokia employee, in the buurt of Düsseldorf, far gone of Nokia's offices and burelen here in West Europe. What I to see there got my mouth did fall open and if I would carry shoes then that had now break. Nokia has the past 8 months, thus a spokesman did not let slip, for the Tukeva 500, an apparatus with, fright, Android worked Jellybean. The name, Finnish for tough is not yet final but a work name which is chosen by the project employees, possible clear to make that Nokia still the balls has to surprise the world.

Sony Xperia sola (S, YOU and P)

Sony Xperia sola was announced officially. Fourth Sony smartphone does not belong to the NXT family (Xperia S, YOU and P). The apparatus will appear in the course of the second trimester (probably in May) in the shops. I could play there vanmiddag already just as short.
It were indeed still prototypes, with software which not yet entirely winkel-klaar are therefore, but well enough for fotoshoot and a first, short impression of these compact Sony Android smartphone.
What is notable directly the design distinguishing of the Xperia sola is with respect to the three Xperia NXT models (S, P and U). The sola have no transparent edge under the baffle but Sony has nevertheless processed still something of a lichteffect in the design. Something that a smattering does think Ericsson S500i of old Sony. The moment you the apparatus swindles unlocked under posting a white beam. Those do not catch the eye indeed complete a lot, particularly by the fact that posting lies as it were on the apparatus, but visible is it.

HTC One X, the best Android smartphone of 2012, so far!

HTC presented line up in Barcelona its newest smartphone; the HTC One serials. According to the Taiwanese manufacturer this `One' smartphone become who we this year still necessary. For this reason they presented therefore also but immediately three alternatives, the One X, One S and One V; -)
The One X are without only doubt the top model of the One serials. Those have, as it happens, one quad core processor (plus extra core for the accumulator and 12-core GPU of NVIDIA), one 4.7 inches HD (720p) posting and super-fast 8 megapixel camera with which can film you moreover simultaneously in full HD and photograph to make. I had it luck which I was possible the past 10 days already with the apparatus `spelen' and my review were therefore also ready the moment the One X lie officially in the shops, today, 2 April.
Of the complaints which HTC in 2011, fell to the ietwat were insipid, thirteen in a dozen, designs of its apparatuses. With the HTC One X the Taiwanezen is there however in successful an apparatus devise that, compared to earlier models and the competition, ietwat own face has.
Appearance is notable especially the bowed back. The body of the One X has been as such devised the impression is awoken that also the baffle ietwat is bent that, just like we that knows of the Galaxy Nexus for example. At the One X is that however face fraud (first photograph below). The baffle is really entirely flat

On the back of the HTC One X find you, natural, the camera with, some, LED flitser. Prominent in the middle state the HTC logo and pogo-pin the connector, something where you still little can come along moreover. Just like at the recent Sensation models the One X are also provide with Beats audio. Left above the camera the entrance for the microSIM card sits. That to open need you a needle or speld (Apple tool cooperates also), but HTC provide in the box also their own tooltje. To the right above the camera further still 3.5mm audio (headset) sits connection.

Entirely on top of the apparatus sit aan-uit/unlock the test. Left seeing you also still a small prick, identically to the microphone which is placed to the base. That upper `microfoontje' look by the `wegpoetsen' of context sounds during ringing.
The charger entrance, microUSB, is himself to the linkerzijde of the One X and has, happy, no protective klepje that nevertheless only would break on that spot. To the rechterzijde only the volumetoets, one sit longer test which can do unfortunately no service as an hem bud for the camera. A separate camera test does not have the One X also.

Datzelfde applies to possible memory extension. That is for the HTC One X no option. The back cannot be removed. Changing the accumulator is not possible therefore also. Standard has the One X 32GB internal memory. For the most of users that will be more than sufficient.  Moreover get you also standard 25GB rise by means of dropping off box (in the cloud). The first two years is that free. Afterwards buy you probably nevertheless the One X 2 (or 3; -)) with 64 or 128GB memory with possibly new for free dropping off box function, but that is pure speculation of my side.
The apparatus senses sound and lies said, as, nicely in the hand. The most of persons to whom I the One X in the past 10 days have shown were it with me once that these HTC are still clearly recognizable if HTC are nevertheless more nicely devised but with `better looks' than the apparatuses which the Taiwanese manufacturer in 2011, brought out. This remains of course also a question of taste. Small minpuntje are, however, that the housing, when you grip a smattering, what makes cracking sounds (plastic on plastic). That I for example at the Galaxy Note and Xperia S has not seen.
